Sports Activities and Administration Trade INC. (Sport Istanbul) was founded in 1989 as the affiliate company of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. In order to improve the physical and mental health of the people of Istanbul, and to develop their skills in the field of sport and physical activity. Sport Istanbul sets its priorities encouraging them to benefit from sports facilities and actively participating in the sports and physical activities. Among its activities are the management of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality sports facilities, organization of national and international scientific, technical, educational, sportive, touristic, cultural contest, festivals, exhibitions, trips, camps, conferences, seminars, and courses within the realm of sports; and to conduct research and educational studies at the related fields. Since its foundation, it has gained significant achievements and experiences in the areas of sports facility management, national and international sports organizations.
Currently, Sport Istanbul operates daily in 28 districts of Istanbul, 51 sports facilities via 25 different sport and physical activity branches, and provide sport to approximately 1 million people of Istanbul through 24 swimming pools, 39 carpet courts, 19 sports hall, 42 tennis court, 38 fitness halls, 23 studio classes, 20 far east sports hall, 6 gyms, 6 archery halls, 2 ice rinks, 7 stadium offers 8 training rooms. Currently, Sport Istanbul employes 2341 staff.
